Lubbock Avalanche Journal:

Austin Hickle, All Saints Episcopal boys basketball

The senior dropped 54 points as All Saints defeated Amarillo Ascension 87-55 last week. Hickle, who was one point from matching the opponent’s total score, returns from a team that advanced to the TAPPS 2A state title game a season ago.

“He played a fantastic game, and I can honestly say in that 54-point game, not one shot was a forced shot,” All Saints Episcopal coach Robert Brashear said. “He just let the game come to him and scored every which way you can. His mid-range game has really improved. He put a lot of work in during the summer.

“He made all the right reads and all the right shots. Austin has worked so hard to the point where he can have games like that. When you score that many points, people think you’re shooting all the time. And that’s not the case. I was happy because every point he scored came off the right decision.”

Hickle received 78.2 percent of the vote in the Lone Star Varsity Athlete of the Week poll for the victory.
