Candace Cameron, All Saints Preschool Music Teacher, received a grant August 22 from the Community Foundation of West Texas’ Mini-Grants for Teachers program.

Cameron received a $190 grant to purchase drums for the Patriot Learning Center (PLC) music room. Her proposal was titled “Tiny Drums for Tiny Hands.”

She also received grants in 2015 and 2016 to purchase musical instruments for her classroom. In 2016, she was awarded a $500 grant from the Community Foundation of West Texas to purchase a movement and manipulative gathering drum. The South Plains Electric Cooperative funded the purchase of a $500 bass metallophone in 2015.

“At All Saints, we use the Orff-Schulwerk method of music learning. Orff-Schulwerk was created by Carl Orff where students learn basic skills of music through active play,” Cameron said. “An integral part of the program is the unique instruments which all have removable bars so that all children can be successful.

The foundation awarded over $30,000 grants to 51 South Plains area elementary and secondary school teachers for the implantation of creative classroom projects during the 2017-2018 school year.
